When I was a kid, I really wasn’t interested in playing classical guitar. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware of it’s existence. My parents were lovers of, but I never got into it very much. Although my first love was rock and roll, clasical guitar was always around me I yearned to become a rock guitarist, playing before crowds of thousands and making huge amounts of money at it. Needless to say, classical guitar was not where I wanted to be.

Clearing out the garage one day I found my dad’s old classical guitar. I had no understanding that the soft strings and machine head design were unusual compared to either metal strung acoustic guitars or electric axes, since I had never seen an instrument close up before. I assumed that all guitars were like this, So I asked my dad to teach me to play. He showed me some that evening, and I began to practice continuously.

One of the great things about starting on the classical guitar was that it allowed me to practice a lot more than I would have been able to otherwise. When you are first starting out on an acoustic guitar, your fingers get very painful. Because classical guitars use nylon strings, they don’t really have this problem. even beginners can play continuosly. This makes it much less frustrating during the first few weeks.

Finally I discovered that I was playing classic guitar music, but by then I was hooked on clasical Guitar. It really was a beautiful guitar, and I was really enjoying the music that I was being shown. The great thing about learning classical guitar is that you can also quite easily pick up rock ‘n roll. All other guitar music is by comparison extremely simple. Learning classical music will give you all the tools to easily take it up anytime you want to. As a matter of fact, some of the best lead guitar players out there nowadays are classically trained.

If you are thinking about learning guitar, it will pay you to give classical guitar a close look. Try out some free online classical guitar lessons. You can look and see what the teacher is doing and decide if you like it or not. Even if you ultimately find that classical guitar is not what you want, you won’t have lost anything. If anything, you will have have gained a solid musical foundation that will make you a better rock player than if you hadn’t studied classical music.

When I make a dream list of best Christmas gifts, the first five selections are easy. But, the rest of them are not as easy since there are actually many more presents than five that I want. An acoustic guitar is at the top of my Christmas wish list. What would be even better than asking for a couple of music related items would be to be given a pass to go into a Guitar Plaza music store and choose what ever I wanted.

Although that might be the greatest gift to get, I would still have a hard time with the choice of what brand guitar to choose- Wilson, Ibanez or Laguna. But wow, what a great time that would be. Without a doubt, I would trade all top 10 Christmas gifts choices for the one present of shopping the guitar music store for my own pick of bass or acoustic guitar and music gear.

Music Wish List

  1. Gibson
  2. Taylor
  3. Ibanez
  4. Mitchell
  5. Laguna

I could even see myself picking up a harmonica and sheet music. There are quite a few big name musicians that know how to play more than one instrument. Since my singing will not help me get a lead in a band, showing the talent of playing guitar and harmonica might go a long way towards landing a place as a member. No offense, but I rather not just tote and setup amplifiers, drums, cables, tuners and speakers for a musical career.
